Fazzan:
Awbari Lakes
The salt lakes north of Awbari, in the erg, are with the lake in the crater
of the Waw an Namous the only permanent water points of Fazzan. This area
was inhabited until the early 80s. The villagers of Gabrawn were living
on some agriculture and fishing of Artemia salina shrimps, out
which their name Dawadah (worm eaters) is derived.
Few
collecting was done in the area, were the usual Tenebrionids have been
seen: Prionotheca coronata, Pimelia canescens interstitialis, trachyderma
hispida, Mesostena angusta... Psammophile beetles usually found
in these environments and for some also collected in Awbari or Jarmah
are expected: Brenskea varentzovi, Schizonychia layeti, Adoretus
garamas, Pentodon variolopuctatum deserti, Podalgus cuniculus reichei
for the Scarabaoidea; Anemia sp. and Erodius sp. for
the Tenebrionidae. Polyathron pectinicornis (Cerambycidae),
which lives on palm tree and is know from the main oases (Ghat, Al Awainat)
could be present.
